High Mountain Heat
At 10,000' and more, the Bristlecones are best visited in the summer. Well, you can get up here in the winter, but only with a snowmobile and a lot of extra effort when the snow is deep. I love the summer months up here because it is so warm and there is more opportunity for monsoon storms to add a bit more interest to an already interesting environment. On this evening I had heat and a smoldering sunset sky casting its color over the landscape. I know this iconic tree has been shot to death, but when you're a landscape photographer with a scene like this before you, you just have to get the shot!
