Six
One of my favorite things to do is wander around with my camera and only one lens to see what I can discover. With only one focal length, it limits your vision and hopefully, challenges your creativity. While in the Alabama Hills I explored an area I hadn't been to before to see if I could find something new. Though much was the same as you'd find anywhere else in this jumble of rocks, I did find something of a mini slot canyon I'm sure I'll revisit on another trip. I also came across these six small hedgehog cacti hidden on a sloping crevice between some boulders. I love these intimate detail shots and especially finding such tenacious life thriving on a miniscule amount of nutrients. With my wide angle lens and these guys only about the size of my fist, I had to get in close bracing my elbows against the rough rock because I also didn't have my tripod with me. I know it's not the kind of shot most people like, but it was a nice find for me and one of the reasons I really love the desert.
